SCSI Cabling Guidelines
The following guidelines are an overview for first-time cable connections and
installation in the ProLiant DL380 Generation 2 server.
To determine the server cabling needs for your specific application:
1. Determine whether cabling needs are for primary storage (hard drive) or
for secondary storage (tape drive or CD-ROM drive).
2. Identify the controller type.
3. Identify the drive types to be used:
G
SCSI hard drives
G
Tape drives
G
CD-ROM storage drives
4. For information about external cabling, refer to the Compaq website:
www.compaq.com/support/storage
After you finish cabling external storage options, use the following software:
I
RBSU, with which you configure new hardware in the system
IMPORTANT: Always run the ROM-Based Setup Utility after you install an option in your
ProLiant DL380 Generation 2 server.
I
ACU, with which you configure and manage drive arrays
SCSI Hard Drive Installation Guidelines
CAUTION: All data on the hard drive that is not configured
previously by an array controller is destroyed when you use the
Smart Array 5i Controller. Back up all data before migrating a
drive from a non-intelligent controller to an intelligent array
configuration.
Follow these general guidelines when adding external SCSI hard drives:
IMPORTANT: SCSI port 1 supports only external SCSI devices.
I
A maximum of 14 SCSI devices can be supported externally (only six
internally).
I
Each SCSI drive must have a unique ID.
