5-8 Compaq ProLiant DL380 Generation 2 Server Setup and Installation Guide
I
Internal Remote Management Connectors
Some ProLiant servers provide integrated 16-pin or 30-pin Remote
Management connectors and an interface cable that directly transmit
keyboard, mouse, and power signals to the Remote Insight board. This
internal cable eliminates the need for the external loopback cable and
Remote Insight AC adapter. Servers with internal Remote Management
connectors provide sufficient standby power to the Remote Insight
board—even when the system is powered down—as long as the server
power supply is functioning properly and connected to an AC power
source.
I
Autoconfiguration of IP Address by means of DNS/DHCP
The Remote Insight board provides automatic network configuration
and can be used straight out of the box. The board comes with a default
name and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) client that
leases an IP address from the DHCP server on the network. For systems
that do not use Domain Name Service (DNS)/DHCP, the Remote
Insight board allows static IP configuration.
The default user name, password, and DNS name are:
G
User name: Administrator
G
Password: The last four digits of the serial number
G
DNS name: RIBXXXXXXXXXXXX where the 12 Xs are the
Medium Access Control (MAC) address of the Remote Insight board
IMPORTANT: User names and passwords are case sensitive.
I
Compaq SmartStart for Servers software
The Remote Insight board is fully configurable through the Compaq
SmartStart interview process.
I
Survey Utility
Using Survey Utility, you can access the Compaq survey configuration
file, which provides the latest server configuration information to assist
in the diagnostic process. Survey is supported on Window NT,
Windows 2000, and NetWare operating systems.
I
IML
The Remote Insight board maintains a copy of the server's IML that can
be accessed using a standard browser, even when the server is not
operational. This capability can be helpful when troubleshooting remote
host server problems.
