1 Introduction This chapter introduces the audit logs created by the HP StorageWorks XP Remote Web Console computer or SVP (Service Processor) on the storage system. The SVP is a computer that is contained within the storage system. Users can access the audit logs that are output by the SVP, but the SVP is accessible only by HP personnel.
File” on page 36 for more information about the syslog information file. This file contains the audit log. You can download it to your Remote Web Console computer or to a primary or secondary syslog server. Download the Audit Log Information Files to the Remote Web Console Computer Only the storage administrator can download the audit log file, and the Audit Log Administrator Role needs to be set to Modify or View.
Page 25
Transferring the audit log information file could fail due to the failures of either the FTP server or LAN problems even though the configuration of the FTP server has finished. If the transfer fails, the Audit: Warning or the Audit: Wraparound button will remain displayed on the Remote Web Console main window.
If you change the configuration in the Audit Log Transfer window (when the items set in the window appear in blue italic letters), click Apply and apply the configuration in the window to the storage system, and then click Transfer. Figure 1 Audit Log Transfer Window Transferring the Audit Log Files to Syslog Servers Audit logs of the storage system can be transferred to a syslog server, the audit log in the same format...

Select one of the following: • If using a primary syslog server: • Select Enable in Output to Primary Server. • Enter the IP Address in Primary Server Setting. Do not enter the periods. • Enter the Port Number in Primary Server Setting. You can enter a number from 1 to 65,535.
Confirm that the syslog server is receiving the log of syslog server setting when the setting operation is completed. AuditLog is the function name of the log and Set Syslog Server is the operation name (see “Set Syslog Server Operation” on page 64). If the log is not received by the syslog server, verify that the IP address and the port number set matches with the IP address and the port number of the syslog server.
Change to Modify mode. Click Go Security Audit Log Setting in the menu bar of the Remote Web Console main window. The Audit Log Setting window (see Figure 3) displays. Select one of the following for Audit Log Buffer: • Enable to temporarily store audit logs in a system disk before storing the logs in the SVP. •...

Component Audit Log Information File Syslog Information File AuditSSSSSYYYYMMDDHHMMSS.tgz SSSSS = serial number File Name YYYYMMDD = date of the transfer When HHMMSS = hour (HH), minute (MM) and Transferred to second (SS) of the transfer the FTP Server The output folder needs to be specified in the Audit Log Transfer window.
Page 31
Component Audit Log Information File Syslog Information File Once the information stored in the audit log information file reaches its maximum capacity, the starting line of the oldest data begins to be overwritten with the starting line of the newest data (wrap around). When you reach 70% of this threshold, the yellow Audit: Warning button appears on the Remote Web Console main window.
2 Audit Log File Format This chapter describes the two types of audit log files and the items included in the files. • Audit Log Information File, page 33 • Syslog Information File, page 36 Audit Log Information File The audit log information file consists of both basic and detailed information about user logins, logouts and disk array configuration change operations.
Page 34
Item Explanation The SLPR number. For storage administrators or commands from the host, the number 99 appears. SLPR number Not output when the operation name is AuditLog and the event name is Create File. Year, month, and day the audit log was created (YYYYMMDD). Date Hour, minute, second and millisecond the audit log was created Time...
Item Explanation The end result of your operation or the result of the received commands. Operation result • Normal end. The operation has ended normally. • Error (xxxx-yyyyy). The operation has ended abnormally and an error code appears. • Warning (xxxx-yyyyy). The operation has partly ended abnormally or was canceled during the operation.
Symbol Definition When there is more than one setting value for one index, the setting values are enclosed by [ ], and separated by a comma (,). Example: CU:LDEV=[0x00:0x00,0x00:0x01,0x00:0x02] Details are enclosed by {}. Example: {Port,Fabric,Connection}=[{1E,ON,FC-AL},{3E,OFF,P-to-P}] Supplementary and additional information for setting values are enclosed by ( ). Example: {VOL(CU:LDEV),Result}={0x00:0x01,Error(xxxx-yyyy)} Syslog Information File The syslog information file includes information about operations performed on the service processor...
Table 4 Items in the Syslog File Item Description The priority according to the following formula, enclosed by brackets (< >): Priority = 8 x Facility + Severity Facility is 1 (fixed). The Severity depends on the type of log information: Priority 4: Error or Warning.

Item Description The result of the audit event: • Success: Normal end. The operation has ended normally. • Failed: Error (xxxx-yyyy). The operation has ended abnormally. Result of the audit • Failed: Warning (xxxx-yyyy). The operation has partly ended abnormally event or was canceled during the operation.
Item Description Identification information for the application is displayed. For more information, Chapter 44 on page 337. This information is output when commands are received from the host. Reserve #2. Not displayed because it is not used. SLPR number. 99 is displayed for commands from the host. The same information contained in the basic information for the audit log information file is also displayed: •...
