Logical names for the printer which allow different sets of default
attributes to be applied to submitted jobs. The Print Operator and
System Administrator define virtual printer names and the
associated set of attributes and values.
An operating system that runs on the Digital Equipment
Corporation VAX family of computers. See also operating
system.
A notice that alerts users to safety information that will prevent
personal injury.
A message that is issued by the system and indicates that an
error has been encountered, although the program has not
failed.
Characteristic of type determined by how light or dark it appears.
Part of a command (* symbol, / symbol, ? symbol) that
represents a category for which the possible options are
requested.
In a command, calling out a general category rather than a
specific item within that category. The purpose of wildcarding is
to generate the options within the given category.
An area of a desktop associated with a task containing
application elements.
A computer able to process data but designed specifically for
interaction with a network.
Data protection feature implemented on magnetic media (for
example floppy disk, 9-track tape) to prevent stored data from
being modified, written over, or erased.
Height of lowercase letters without their ascenders or
descenders (height of letter "x"). See also ascender; descender.
The horizontal axis on a grid.
Unit of measurement representing a fraction of an inch. It may
also be referred to as a picture element (pixel) or spot, for
example, 1/600 spots per inch (spi).
Component of a printer that develops an image, transfers it to
paper, and fuses it for output as hardcopy.
An application within the decomposition service used to merge
pages of form with variable data.
The name for the Xerox enterprise level communications
protocol suite.
The vertical axis on a grid.
