The GY-X1TC is capable of recording time codes together with
the video signal. Tapes with time codes are effective for
subsequent use in A/B roll editing.
The GY-X1TC employs the VITC system which records time
codes in the vertical blanking period. Time codes include time
data and user's bits, which are set independently.
Setting the user's bits
The time code specifications of this unit are as follows:
@ insertion period: line 13H or 15H
e@ Frame mode: Drop frame
To change the insertion period and frame mode, consult an
authorized JVC service agent.

Time data setting
The user's bits are an 8-digit number which is recorded
together with time data on the tape, to be used for tape
management.
For each digit, numerals 0 through 9 and characters A through
F can be used.
@ The user's bits need not be set. If not required, proceed to
"Time data setting".
1. Set the TC/UB switch to UB.
2. Press the HOLD button.
The following display will appear with the left-most character
blinking.

3. The blinking character can be changed.
@Set the character with the ADVANCE button.
@Move to the next character with the SHIFT button.
Repeat steps (D and @ to set all the user's bits.
4. After setting the data, press the PRESET button.
Set the time data to be recorded.
1. Set the REC RUN/FREE RUN switch as required.
e REC RUN:
Time codes count up only while the VTR is
recording. Continuous data is available.
e FREE RUN:
Time codes count up when
setting is
completed
(in step 6) and continues
counting.
Therefore,
the time codes
recorded on the tape are not continuous.
Use this mode when you want to record
real-time data on the tape. (Counting stops
when the power is switched off. Be careful.)
2. Set the TC/UB switch to TC.
3. Press the HOLD button.
The 10s hour digit will blink.
4. Set the data with the ADVANCE button.
5. Move to the next digit with the SHIFT button and set the
data with the ADVANCE button.
