Chapter 6: Matrox Corona hardware reference
PCI-to-PCI bridge
The PCI-to-PCI bridge allows the connection of two or more PCI
devices to one Host PCI slot (MGA-2164W and Matrox VIA), in
which only one PCI device is allowed. It decouples the
secondary or subordinate bus from the primary bus, making
transfers exclusive to the secondary bus invisible to the
primary bus. It provides write posting from the secondary PCI
local bus to the primary one, allowing high throughput with
minimal added latency.

Host 32-Bit PCI Bus
The data transfer rate between the system bus master and the
target memory (across the PCI bridge), in various read/write
combinations, is highly dependent on the Host (core logic
chipset).

Digital interface

The 24-bit bi-directional digital interface is designed to receive
data from a digital video source (TTL) or the companion
digital-input board and to feed data to a Matrox Genesis main
or processor board.

VMChannel

Matrox Corona provides a 32-bit bus-controller VMChannel
interface for high-speed connection to external devices for data
exchange (for example, Matrox Genesis main or processor
board for accelerated image processing).
On a 68-wire ribbon cable system, the VMChannel runs at
25 MHz for 100 Mbytes/sec peak transfer rates. On a backplane
system, it runs at 33 MHz for 132 Mbytes/sec peak transfer
rates.
