Silvia PID Installation Guide
Step B5 – Connect wires to controller
The next step is to connect the remaining wires to the back of your controller. It is a little simpler
to do this before the controller is inserted into the enclosure.
Note that the photos and instructions on this page depict a kit that includes a steam control
package in addition to the basic PID kit. If you do not have a steam control package, ignore
any instructions regarding the yellow wires. Those wires are associated with the steam control
package only.
The photos above depict a representative series 96 controller. The actual controller in your kit
may be a slightly different model. If so, consult the wiring diagram on your controller and follow
the actual wiring diagram if it is in disagreement with these photos and instructions.
Connect your new wiring to the Series 96 controller as follows:
Red thermocouple conductor to terminal 6 (-)
Blue thermocouple conductor to terminal 7 (+)
White DC control wire to terminal 13 (-)
Red DC control wire to terminal 15 (+)
Black high voltage power wiring to terminal 9 (L1, or hot)
Gray high voltage power wiring to terminal 8 (L2, or neutral)
Yellow relay wires to terminals 1 and 3 (steam control package only)
To install wires, first loosen the clamping screws on the terminals of the controller. Push each
wire all the way into its receptacle, and then tighten the screws securely. Next, double and then
triple check that each wire is properly inserted all the way and is secure. Then go back and
double and triple check them again. It is both potentially dangerous, and very inconvenient,
for your wires to come loose after you have closed everything up.
