[9] BASIC FUNCTIONAL CHECKS
9-1. Power-on check
Check the following after pressing the main switch with the power
key.
1) Make sure that the ribbon stops at its home position after shifting
up and down (ribbon initial action).
2) Make sure that the printwheel stops at its home position (under-
line).
3) Make sure that the carriage base stops on its left margin (at 10th
column in the ten pitch mode which is initial setting).
NOTE: For some of machines are set to the 12 pitch mode, refer
to Destination Table in Parts Guide.
4) Make sure that the main menu is displayed in the LCD.
9-2, Manual check during initial state
1) Move the LCD contrast adjust VR and check to see that the LCD
contrast changes.
2) Move the LCD brightness adjust VR and check to see that the
backlight is adjusted.
3) Press the ET/WP key and check to see that it goes into the
typewriter mode.
Operation must be carried out in the typewriter mode, hereinafter.
9-3. Checking printwheel home position
Check the home position (underline).

The printwheel and the hammer must be positioned as shown in the
figure above, when the printwheel stops at its home position. If
deviated from the limits, rotate the wheel motor to make fine adjust-
ment of the home position. (This check-out needs to be done while
power is on. After the fine adjustment has completed, turn power off
and on to check its initial operation.)
9-4. Checking key entry
In the initial state, type every key to check that the character printed
conforms to the keytop inscription.
9-5. Checking paper holding plate position
Make sure that there is a clearance of 0.2 to 0.4mm between the
paper holding plate and the platen and insert the test paper to check
that it moves smooth..
The clearance must be adjusted using the
feeler gauge.
9-6. Checking carriage movement

Make sure that the carriage moves smooth without stopping on its
way, showing no speed fluctuation, irregular noise, and vibration.
9-7. Checking paper insertion
