Gaussmeter IGM11 Operating Instructions
Chapter 9 Serial Interfaces

Serial Interfaces

Introduction

Via the provided serial interfaces as well as via the LAN interface, all functions of the
gaussmeter can be controlled by an external device (e.g. personal computer).
If the gaussmeter is externally controlled, and the connected computer is supposed to
carry out the data exchange, a connection is possible via this interface.
Basically, the device can also be controlled via the USB interface on the front panel.
For a user-programmed control, this interface requires a special driver on the com-
puter. This driver is provided in the form of a Windows
®
DLL. This interface is mainly
for easy parametrization of the device. A corresponding set-up program (for Win-
dows
®
operating systems) will be provided.
The data transfer itself, i.e. the protocol, is defined similar to the widely-used SCPI
programming language for measuring devices.
