The feature includes the introduction of the new hardware, the evolution of
the BCP software to execute on the hardware and the introduction of the
N+1 (N active and 1 standby) fault tolerance strategy.

Hardware

As described in
provides many improvements from the MCS 5100 Release 3 hardware.
NEBS-3-ETSI compliance improves reliability, the chassis permits many
server configurations, and the BCT provides common resources such as
power, cooling, system management, network connections, backplane and
various input/output (I/O) devices.

Software

The BCP is enhanced so that the software will configure itself to conform
with the operating environment of the target platform. It functions as a
distributed collection of networked subcomponents or as a consolidated
collection of Host and Media Blade functions (which results in streamlining
the coordinated service delivery).
