partition-number:
argument, the storage medium is divided evenly into the specified number of partitions. To customize
the sizes of partitions, do not provide this argument.
Usage guidelines
The flash memory cannot be partitioned. A partition cannot be partitioned.
Before partitioning a storage medium, perform the following tasks:
Back up the files in the storage medium. The partition operation clears all data on the medium.
Make sure no other users are accessing the medium.
Make sure the storage medium to be partitioned is not write protected. If the storage medium is
write protected, the operation will fail, and you must remount or reinstall the storage medium to
restore access to the storage medium.
After partitioning a storage medium, you must format the partitions to create the file systems before
you can access the file systems.
The actual partition size and the specified partition size might have a difference of less than 5% of
the storage medium's total size.
To change the sizes of partitions on a storage medium, partition the storage medium again and
specify the required sizes for the partitions.
Before removing a partitioned storage medium, you must unmount all file systems on the storage
medium.
