9. If you are instructed to return the I/O expansion adapter, follow all packaging instructions, and use
any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
10. If you are installing a replacement I/O expansion adapter, go to "Installing an I/O expansion
adapter." Otherwise, continue with the next step.
11. If you removed I/O expansion adapter 2 during step 6 on page 50, reinstall the adapter. See

"Installing an I/O expansion adapter."

12. Install and close the compute node cover. See "Installing and closing the compute node cover" on
page 34.

CAUTION:
Hazardous energy is present when the compute node is connected to the power source. Always
replace the compute node cover before you install the compute node.
13. Install the compute node into the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. See "Installing the compute
node in an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis" on page 92.
Installing an I/O expansion adapter
You can install an I/O expansion adapter on its connector.
About this task
To install an I/O expansion adapter, complete the following steps:
Procedure
1. Read the Safety topic and the "Installation guidelines" on page 29.
2. Shut down the operating system on all partitions of the compute node, turn off the compute node,
and remove the compute node from the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. See "Removing the
compute node from an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis" on page 31.
3. Open and remove the compute node cover. See "Removing the compute node cover" on page 33.
4. Touch the static-protective package that contains the part to any unpainted metal surface on the IBM
Flex System Enterprise Chassis or any unpainted metal surface on any other grounded rack
component. Then remove the new part from its shipment package.
5. Are you installing an I/O expansion ETE adapter (location Un-P1-C20) on an IBM Flex System p270
Compute Node?
v Yes: Continue with the next step.
v No: Continue with step 9 on page 54.
