1. Use the management console to determine if the compute node is recognized.
2. Use the management console to ensure that power-on permission is not denied due to power policy
settings.
3. Turn off the compute node.
4. Remove the compute node from the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis, and remove the cover.
5. Remove or disconnect the following devices, one at a time, until you find the failure. Reinstall, turn
on, and reconfigure the compute node each time.
v I/O expansion cards.
v Hard disk drives.
v Memory modules. The minimum configuration requirement is 8 GB (two 4 GB DIMMs).
The following minimum configuration is required for the compute node to start:
v System-board and chassis assembly (with two microprocessors)
v Two 4 GB DIMMs
v A functioning IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis
6. Install and turn on the compute node. If the problem remains, suspect the following components in
order:
a. DIMM
b. System-board and chassis assembly
Results
If the problem is solved when you remove an I/O expansion card from the compute node but the
problem recurs when you reinstall the same expansion card, suspect the expansion card; if the problem
recurs when you replace the expansion card with a different one, suspect the system-board and chassis
assembly.
If you suspect a networking problem and the compute node passes all the system tests, suspect a
network cabling problem that is external to the system.
