7. Gently spread open the carrier with your fingers while sliding the SSD out of the carrier case with
your thumbs.
8. If you are instructed to return the drive, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging
materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
Installing a SATA solid-state drive
You can install a Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) solid-state drive (SSD) in a compute
node.
About this task
Figure 13 shows how to install the SATA SSD.
Figure 13. Installing a SATA SSD
To install a SATA SSD, complete the following steps:
Procedure
1. Read the Safety topic and the "Installation guidelines" on page 29.
2. Shut down the operating system on all partitions of the compute node, turn off the compute node,
and remove the compute node from the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. See "Removing the
compute node from an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis" on page 31.
3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, with the cover side up.
4. Open and remove the compute node cover. See "Removing the compute node cover" on page 33.
5. Locate the connector for the drive.
6. Remove the SSD carrier case from the drive tray. See "Removing a solid-state drive carrier" on page
38.
7. Slide the SSD into the carrier case until it snaps in place.
