14. Install and close the compute node cover. See "Installing and closing the compute node cover" on
page 34.
Statement 21
CAUTION:
Hazardous energy is present when the compute node is connected to the power source. Always
replace the compute node cover before installing the compute node.
15. Install the compute node into the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. See "Installing the compute
node in an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis" on page 92.
16. If you replaced the part because of a service action, verify the repair by checking that the amber
enclosure fault LED is off. For more information, see "Compute node control panel button and
LEDs" on page 9.
17. Turn on the compute node.

Replacing the system-board and chassis assembly

FRUs must be replaced only by trained service technicians. When replacing the system board, you replace
the system board and compute node base (chassis) as a single assembly.
Before you begin
Attention: Replacing the management card and the system board at the same time might result in the
loss of vital product data (VPD) and information about the number of active processor cores. If the
management card and system board must both be replaced, replace them one at a time. For further
assistance, contact your next level of support.
About this task
Note: For more information about the locations of the connectors and LEDs on the system board, see
"System-board layouts" on page 11.
To replace the system-board and chassis assembly, complete the following steps:
Procedure
1. Read the Safety topic and the "Installation guidelines" on page 29.
2. Is the compute node managed by a management console?
Yes
Continue with step 3.
No
Continue with step 5 on page 84.
3. If the compute node has Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) installed or uses more than one partition, have
the customer back up partition profile data by using one of the following methods:
v If this system is managed by an IBM Flex System Manager (FSM) management console, back up
partition profile data. Using the Systems management command-line interface (SMCLI), enter the
bkprofdata command. See smcli - Systems management command-line interface
(http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/flexsys/information/topic/com.ibm.acc.8731.doc/
com.ibm.director.cli.helps.doc/fqm0_r_cli_smcli.html). For more information about the bkprofdata
command, see BKPROFDATA (http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/flexsys/information/
topic/com.ibm.acc.psm.reference.doc/manpages/psm.bkprofdata.html).
Note: If the backup operation fails because the compute node is in an error state, save the
configuration files by using the log collection tool. See Collecting pedbg on Flex System Manager
(FSM) (https://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas777a837116ee2fca8862578320079823c).
