Intermediate Shaft Removal, Non-Freespool
The intermediate shaft can be removed with the winch
mounted on the tractor.
NOTE: The following steps show the winch removed
from the tractor with the clutch shaft and brake shaft
removed. This is the normal sequence for complete
unit overhaul but it is not necessary for the removal
of the intermediate shaft only.
NOTE: The instructions below apply only to a winch NOT
equipped with the optional FREESPOOL arrangement.
Refer to the next subsection, Intermediate Shaft
Removal, FREESPOOL, for instructions relevant to
winches equipped with the FREESPOOL option.

Remove the intermediate shaft cover.
2.
Screw a 3/4-10 UNC slide hammer into the end of
the intermediate shaft and partially pull it out.

Remove the intermediate shaft, along with bearing
cup and cone, while ensuring that the intermediate
gear does not fall.

Remove the intermediate gear fi rst, then the drum
pinion gear and the inner bearing cone.

Remove drum shaft retainer prior to removing inter-
mediate gear. See Drum Shaft and Drum Removal
subsection that follows.
