Replacing cooling fans

Procedure for replacing a cooling fan

Cooling fans are integrated into the system to dissipate the heat generated by the
functioning of the system. These fans provide cooling for the processors, expansion
cards, and memory modules.
Your system supports up to six standard or high-performance, hot-swappable cooling
fans. High-performance fans can be identified by a blue label on top of the cooling fan.
The procedure for installing standard and high-performance fans is identical.
CAUTION
Mixing of standard and high performance cooling fans is not supported.
Each fan is listed in the systems management software, referenced by the respective
fan number. If there is a problem with a particular fan, you can easily identify and
replace the proper fan by noting the fan numbers on the cooling fan assembly.
To replace a cooling fan, perform the tasks in the following checklist, in the order they
are listed. The tasks are used for all OS types.
Cooling fans are hot swappable and do not require any software steps in VxFlex OS to
prepare the server for the part replacement or return it operation after replacing the
fan.
