The Jeppesen database cards provide up-to-date information about airports and other navigation aids around the world. The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus GPS System comprises one Dzus-mounted Receiver/Display Unit (RDU) containing a GPS Receiver (12-channel), one GPS Antenna/ Preamp, and applicable installation hardware (see Section 1.4.2 for the appropriate part numbers).
FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus GPS Navigation System 1.2.1 Receiver/Display Unit The Receiver/Display Unit (RDU) is the main component of the FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus navigation system. The RDU consists of the GPS Receiver, the User Interface, and the System Interface. 1.2.1.1 GPS Receiver The GPS Receiver interprets the satellite transmissions to determine the current position.
The GPS Antenna (P/N 81194) receives and amplifies GPS Signals. The GPS Antenna unit is an omnidirectional flat microstrip antenna with an integral preamplifier and is rated to 1300 knots IAS. An alternate antenna (P/N 16248-11) can be used with the FreeFlight 2101 I/O APPROACH Plus in installations without Satcom. Antenna P/N 81194 is recommended.

The Installation Kit contains decals, labels, NavData subscription form, manuals, appropriate connectors, and installation hardware. This is provided as a convenience to the installation agency and FreeFlight reserves the right to substitute equivalent parts without prior notice. The contents are listed below:...
Current certification guidelines (AC 20-138A) require an altitude input for A1 and A2 certification. The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus accepts a serial altitude input in addition to DADS and Synchro formats. Additional equipment may be necessary to provide this serial altitude input.

SECTION II - Installation GENERAL This section provides general information for installing the FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus GPS Navigation System. The cables will be fabricated by the installation agency to fit these various requirements. This section contains interconnect diagrams, mounting dimensions and information pertaining to installation.
The GPS antenna, the antenna gasket (-21kit only) and two 90° TNC connectors are provided in the installation kit. Straight TNC connectors are also available from FreeFlight. Proper antenna installation is critical to both the performance of the system and the aircraft's structural integrity.

The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus requires no periodic maintenance or calibration. Maintenance is performed on an on-condition basis only. The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus is continually tested using Built-In Test Equipment (BITE) when the system is in operation. This method of testing will notify the operator of a failure. System software updates are accomplished using the card slot on the front of the unit and instructions described in normal Service Bulletin notification.

If the number of satellites in use drops to the point that GPS navigation is no longer possible, then too much interference exists between VHF radio and the FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus. Two common sources of interference are from the VHF radio front panel to the GPS antenna and from the VHF antenna to the GPS antenna.

The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus GPS Navigation System will provide position accuracies commensurate with selective availability, provided that the system is receiving adequate satellite signals. The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus has demonstrated that it is capable of and has met the accuracy requirements of: VFR/IFR domestic en route, terminal and non-precision instrument approach operation within the U.S.
NOTE: Many of the waypoints identified in the Jeppesen NavData database and used by the 2101 I/O Approach Plus to fly the approach may be unnamed in the published Terminal Procedures. These included waypoints such as the intersection of two radials, DME positions, waypoints located on a DME Arc, turn waypoints, or waypoints to indicate a Final Approach Fix (FAF).
Page 132
Waco Texas, 76706 with FreeFlight 2101 I/O App Plus GPS The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus can only be used for approach guidance if the reference coordinate datum system for the instrument approach is WGS-84 or NAD-83. (The NavData data base used in the FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus only contains WGS-84 geodetic datum referenced data).
