REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIFICATIONS
Review this chapter before installing the TRBMIM-T. It describes
requirements and specifications for hardware and media in the
installation. Failure to follow specified operational guidelines could result
in poor network performance.

2.1 MMAC REQUIREMENTS

Any MMAC into which a TRBMIM-T is installed must be equipped with
a Cabletron Systems Flexible Network Bus (FNB) backplane. The FNB
serves as the communication medium for modules in the MMAC.
MMACs without an FNB can be upgraded with an FNB to provide
support for Token Ring networks. Contact Cabletron Systems to order the
FNB upgrade kit.
The MMAC must also have the correct number of power supply modules
necessary to support the various Token Ring and mixed-protocol
configurations in the MMAC you want to implement. Call Cabletron
Systems Technical Support Department for help determining specific
power requirements for your MMAC and network installation.

2.2 INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

The TRBMIM-T installs into any of the Media Interface Module (MIM)
slots (see Figure 2-1) of the following Cabletron Systems Multi Media
Access Centers:
• MMAC-M3FNB/-3FNB
• MMAC-M5FNB/-5FNB
• MMAC-M8FNB/-8FNB
