6.3 Coolant Flush and Filter Replacement

Important: Never turn on the System when the coolant reservoir is empty.
Important: When handling coolant, wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses
Important: Only use approved coolant. Commercially available antifreeze
contains corrosion inhibitors that will damage the cooling system.
Important: When making brass fitting connections, use two opposing
wrenches and only tighten enough to make liquid seals. The fittings are
subject to damage if over tightened.
The torch coolant should be flushed out of the system every six months and
replaced with new coolant. Replace the coolant filter at the same time.
Tools required:
• Torx T27 screwdriver
• Two 3/4" open end wrenches, or equivalent
• Air compressor, hose, and nozzle
• Bucket [>5 gallon (18.9 liter) capacity]
Procedure:
Remove primary (wall) power from the System.
Ensure the torch and consumables are properly installed.
Ensure the coolant supply (in and out) hoses are properly installed.
Remove the coolant reservoir cap.
Use a T27 screwdriver to remove the 16 screws in the Power Supply's right
side cover, including those in and around the coolant filter access panel. Note
the location of the short and long screws. Remove the right side cover.
Use two opposing wrenches to
disconnect the pump supply hose
from the top/front of the pump. Be
prepared for coolant to escape and
have a bucket or other vessel ready
to catch escaping coolant. Leave
the hose inside the bucket while
performing the next two steps.
Use two opposing wrenches to
remove the coolant supply hose
from the rear of the Power Supply
(
). Note that the coolant supply
hose has right hand threads. Be
prepared for coolant to escape from
the hose/fitting when breaking this
connection.
