TECHNICAL TIPS

SHIFT MOTOR WILL NOT OPERATE

1.

Emergency manual shift system

Emergency lever and emergency manual shift
lever are provided against failure in shifting
with the remote control lever.
NOTE:
It is recommended to use a person specif-
ically for operating these lever.
The person operating these levers and the
person operating the remote control lever
for the adjusting the engine speed should
keep close contact with each other so that
the shifting operation is made at a lower
speed.
The levers must be operated while the
engine is running.
WARNING
Do not attempt emergency manual shift
override if you cannot perform shifting
and steering operations well enough to
react to hazards in your way. An acci-
dent may result.
Do not cruise if the emergency lever
and emergency manual shift lever have
to be used. The emergency means are
designed exclusively for running to a
service available port immediately.

2 Emergency manual shift lever
Operating procedure at shift engagement fail-
ure
NOTE:
The outboard is in neutral and the engine is
running.
1) Move the lever 1 fully in the direction indi-
cated by an arrow.
2) Turn the emergency manual shift lever 2
clockwise
(reverse) by approximately 5/12 of a turn
until the outboards shifts.
