VERTICAL STARTER
The sailboat owner will appreciate the conve-
nience of the optional vertical starter. Simply bolt
it to the motor and it redirects the starter rope to
pull vertically.

Vertical Starter Installation
1. Remove the starter assembly.
2. Remove the cover from the starter handle.
3. Untie the knot in the rope and remove the
handle. Pull the rope out of the guide while
holding the sheave.
4. Turn the sheave drum clockwise until the
starter spring is free.
5. Remove the original wire guide from the
starter case.
6. Install the vertical starter onto the starter
case.
7. Insert the rope through the vertical starter and
starter handle holes respectively. Knot the
ends and install the cover into the starter han-
dle.
8. Pass the starter rope through the cut.
9. Wind the spring up two turns counterclock-
wise with the starter rope.
10. Slowly release the sheave drum clockwise,
then roll in the starter rope.
11. Install the starter assembly onto the cylinder
block.
