VOLTAGE REGULATOR

If the lighting coil is used to power the lights
without a battery, consider installing a voltage
regulator. A voltage regulator will stabilize the
power output of the coil and help prevent blown
bulbs caused by power surges.
NOTE: The voltage regulator controls the AC
voltage of the lighting coil. It does not rectify the
output to DC and cannot be used with a battery.
Usually, the voltage regulator is not required
when using a battery with small outboards,
because the battery will dampen any voltage
spikes.
Part Number
663-81910-10-00
NOTE: On 4/5HP models, a lighting coil must be
installed. All other applicable models have a stan-
dard lighting coil.
Applicable Models
5HP~40HP (Manual)
Installation
Mounting
1. Select a suitable location near the motor and
secure the voltage regulator to the boat.
NOTE: The inside of the transom may be a good
location for the voltage regulator provided it is not
in an area subjected to a lot of water splash.
Wiring
1. Connect the yellow leads to the leads from
the lighting coil.
2. Connect the red and black leads to the lights.
NOTE: The voltage regulator can also be used
with the Yamaha rectifier to assure proper voltage
output from the rectifier to the battery.
WARNING
When using a battery, a rectifier assembly
must be used to prevent damage to the lighting
coil.
