We first need to connect our laptop to the drive's D2D port (connector "XD2D" to be specific). Most of us will use a USB to
RS-232 serial converter. That will be connected to an RS-232 to RS-485 converter. And that will connect to the drive's D2D
port.
USB to RS-485 serial converters are also available.
Pay attention to RS-485 signal polarity. Generally "A" is (-) and "B" is (+). If communication just doesn't work, try swapping
these lines. It's also a good practice to terminate the drive end of the bus by turning ON switch J3 (push the red slider to the
right).
Once the hardware is setup, we will use a software program called ModbusPoll. Some familiarity with this software is
assumed. You can simply open the three ModbusPoll setup files that should accompany this guide, or you can set them up
from scratch:
