– Connect voltage tester - V.A.G 1527B- with cables from aux‐
iliary measuring set - V.A.G 1594C- to battery positive (+)
(connection in engine compartment -arrow-) and oil pressure
switch. LED must not light up.
If the LED lights up:
– Replace oil pressure switch - F1-
If LED does not light up:
Note
Observe the tester and LED while starting because the switching
point of the oil pressure switch may already be exceeded when
starting.
– Start engine and run at idling speed. At 0.7...1.1 bar the LED
must light up; otherwise renew oil pressure switch - F1- .
Checking oil pressure:
– Check oil pressure at various speeds:
♦ 1500 rpm: at least 1.7 bar
♦ 2000 rpm: 3.0 ... 5.5 bar
♦ Over 2,000 rpm: maximum 7.0 bar
If the specifications are not attained:
– Check strainer in oil suction pipe
– Check control piston of oil pressure safety valve in oil pump
for dirt.
– Check oil pipe at bottom of cylinder block
⇒ Item 14 (page 124)
Note
Mechanical damage, e.g. to bearings, could also be the cause
for oil pressure being too low.
The oil pressure safety valve control piston is spring-loaded.
Great care is therefore required when screwing the plug in/out.
The plug is tightened to 35 Nm in oil pump.
If no fault is found:
– Renew oil pump
⇒ page 127
If the specification is exceeded:
– Check oil channels.
– Renew oil pump, if necessary
