Getting started

Breathing system

The breathing system is fully clicked into place,
the breathing hoses are correctly and securely
connected.
Insert optional filters.
Fresh soda lime, without violet discoloration.
For information on how to change the soda
lime, see "Changing soda lime" on page 117,
"Removing the absorber" on page 210 and "Fill-
ing and fitting the absorber" on page 223.
Soda lime depletion
In the Standby Conf. menu, see page 168, the
maximum number of use days can be set for the
absorber, based on e.g., clinical hygiene guide-
lines. Use days monitoring is then available on the
Check List, during the Self Test and on the Self
Test Results page.
When the time remaining for use is 0 days, the
component will be marked conditionally functional
during the Self Test and an alarm will be generated
in Standby.

When changing the soda lime, the date and time
can be logged by pressing the soft key soda lime
changed on the Check List screen. The label of
the key then changes to undo change; the key can
be pushed again to undo the soda lime change in-
formation. Information on when the soda lime has
been changed will be logged in the system when
the automatic test is started.
NOTE
Drain any water which may have collected in the
ventilator diaphragm.
For diaphragm location and disassembly instruc-
tion see page 212.
CAUTION
Risk of device failure
The correct operation of the anesthesia machine
will be impaired if condensation enters the breath-
ing system and/or the ventilator diaphragm.
If condensation is a frequent problem, install wa-
ter traps in the breathing hoses.
