NOTE: In case of setting the pump for another user, after priming is completed
the following must be done to prevent uncontrolled priming by the user:
Stop infusion and turn the pump off. Do not deliver the pump to the user while
switched on.
NOTE: All BodyGuard® administration sets contain a check valve which means
the line cannot be primed using gravity. Sets must be primed using the infusion
pumps Priming function.
NOTE: The priming volume is selectable depending on the capacity of the
administration sets in regular use in your service. For example the standard
BodySet® with drip chamber has a priming volume of 16ml whereas the PCA &
PCA sets have a priming volume of only 5ml.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the drugs used in pain management we recommend
use of the low priming volume sets whether the patient is ambulatory or not as
the small fluid capacity of the lines is another safety feature. The BodyGuard® is
therefore set to a default priming volume of 5ml at a rate of 600ml/hr.
NOTE: The priming volume can be changed in "Change Settings" (see later
section).

Modify Protocol

When you receive your BodyGuard® pump and go to 'Modify Protocol' on the main
menu for the first time you will see the protocols are blank. On the first few patients
using the BodyGuard® you can edit, add or delete any of these infusion protocols
to tailor the protocols to your service.
This section is probably the most complex of the manual but remember you should
only have to perform this function once for each protocol with each pump whilst
you are setting it up for use on the first few patients. It is possible to adjust the
pump's default protocols to the one you require, by request from our factory.
Each protocol contains the following data: -
 Bag volume
 Drug/Regimen name
 Infusion rate in ml or mg or mcg per hour (This step and the protocol
maximum rate step will be hidden if the pump has been set to 0ml maximum
basal rate the technical staff)
 Bolus volume (if applicable)
 Lock Time between boluses (if applicable)
 4 hour limit applicable to this regime
 If Medigard is on – Maximal drug rate per kg.
 NOTE:
You can use protocols to set up several commonly used treatment
regimes in your service i.e. same bag, drug name, basal rate but
different bolus volumes or lockout times.
Software ver. CVPCA30E_1
 In the menu scroll to "select protocol" and start a new protocol
(see instructions in next pages).
