Changing the steering column and
its parts
Dismantling
!
WARNING
The riding mower may never be lifted
more than 50 cm from a level position
unless the following precautions are
taken:
1.
Drain fuel from the engine and run
the engine until the carburettor is dry.
2.
Remove the battery.
3.
Drain oil from the crankcase.
1. Block up the tractor so that the front wheels are
raised 40 cm above the floor. (See page 3)
2. Knock out the cotter (27) and remove the steering
wheel.
3. Remove the outer retainer ring (26) from the steering
column.
4. Take out the steering column from underneath the
tractor.
5. Remove the steering column bearings if necessary.
Mounting
1. Fit the steering column bearings (if relevant). Do not
tighten the screws until the steering column is fitted
and adjusted.
2. Set the front wheels so that they are directed straight
ahead.
3. Insert the steering column underneath the tractor
and up through the bearing of the steering column.
4. Fit the steering wheel by aligning the cotter hole of
the steering wheel and column, and knock in the
cotter (27).
5. Set the steering wheel so that it is directed straight
ahead, and move the steering column upwards so
that the steering pinion (10) and the steering gear
sector (9) mesh properly.
6. Ensure that the axis of the steering gear sector is
aligned with that of the steering pinion.
7. Fit the retainer ring (26) on the steering column.
8. If relevant, tighten the screws of the steering column
bearing.
