Changing the steering gear sector

Dismantling
1. Remove the steering rod elbow (8) from the
steering gear sector (9).
2. Remove the locknut (19) and washer to remove
the lubricating nipple (23) and the bearing (20) of
the steering gear sector.
3. Remove screw (25) and spacer (24), to remove
the following parts:
A. Steering gear sector (9).
B. Spacer plate (21).
C. Protective plate (22).
Mounting
1. Move the protective plate (22), spacer plate (21)
and steering gear sector (9) up to their correct
positions and fit spacer (24) and screw (25) but do
not tighten fully.
2. Insert the screw and lubricating nipple (23) down
through the body, protective plate (22), spacer
plate (21) and steering gear sector (9), and fit the
steering gear sector bearing (20), washer and
locknut (19). Do not tighten the locknut.
3. Adjust the steering gear sector (9).
A. The steering wheel is to be adjusted so that it
points straight forward.
B. The axis of the steering gear sector (9) is to
coincide with that of the steering pinion (10) to
give correct setting of the steering.
4. Tighten the steering gear sector (9).
A. Tighten screw (25) with a torque of 15 Nm.
B. Tighten locknut (19) with a torque of 15–20 Nm.
5. Fit the steering rod elbow (8) on the steering gear
sector (9).
