Chapter 3 Configuring TN-3270/5250
Problem
The laser scanner does
not read a label.
Your application locks up.

Action
Move the laser scanner closer to or farther
away from the bar-code label. You may not
be scanning at the correct distance.
Change the angle of the laser scanner to the
bar-code label. The scanner may be too far
above or below the bar-code label or too far
to the side to scan properly.
Clean the scanner's lens.
Point the scanner at a blank surface and
press one of the Scan keys. Look for the
scanning line that appears on the blank
surface when the scanner is operating. If no
scanning line appears, follow your
organization's procedure to have the
scanner serviced.
Make sure the bar-code label you are trying
to scan is one of the bar-code types that
your PTC-1800 has been programmed to
recognize.
The PTC-1800's application program may
not support scanned data at this particular
field. Consult the documentation for the
PTC-1800's application program to
determine when the scanner and Scan keys
are enabled.
Reboot the PTC-1800, following the
instructions in Chapter 16.
Reset the PTC-1800, following the
instructions in Chapter 16.
Follow your organization's procedure to
have the PTC-1800 serviced.
