Chapter 6. Upgrading ProtecTIER Manager

Use these procedures to upgrade the version of ProtecTIER Manager on the TSSC
or ProtecTIER Manager Workstation.
Except where indicated, the procedures in this chapter are
The current ProtecTIER Manager installer is provided on the IBM System Storage
ProtecTIER Manager V3.1 DVDIBM System Storage ProtecTIER Manager V3.1 DVD.
Because different ProtecTIER Manager installers are provided for Windows and
Linux, make sure that the installer you use is correct for the operating system
running on your ProtecTIER Manager workstation:
v If you are installing the ProtecTIER Manager upgrade on the TSSC, see
v If you are installing the ProtecTIER Manager upgrade on a workstation running
v If you are installing ProtecTIER Manager upgrade on a workstation running
Important: Before starting the upgrade, make sure the currently-installed
ProtecTIER Manager application is closed.

Upgrading ProtecTIER Manager on the TSSC

Use this procedure to upgrade the version of ProtecTIER Manager on the TSSC.

IBM Service Task
1. If the TSSC is not already powered-on, do so now.
2. Set the resolution on the TSSC to 1280 x 1024.
This is the optimal resolution for viewing the PT Manager GUI.
3. If prompted for login information, enter the username: service and the
password: service.
The TSSC's blue desktop displays.
4. Right-click on the TSSC blue desktop.
The IBM TS3000 System Console menu displays.
5. Select Browser Functions → ProtecTIER Manager Functions → Install
ProtecTIER Manager GUI.
The TSSC disc drive opens.
6. Insert the IBM System Storage ProtecTIER Manager V3.1 DVD.
The following message displays:
Installation may last a few moments. Please be patient.
7. When the ProtecTIER Manager installation wizard starts, follow the on-screen
instructions to complete the installation.
