CHAPTER 2

WORKING WITH THE PRINTER

In order to print with your laser printer, you must use the appro-

priate software. Information about getting your printer up and print-

ing is covered in the software manual supplied with the

printer.

This chapter covers material that goes beyond simply setting up

the printer-information that you will use both before and after

you begin printing. Among other things, this chapter shows you

how to load paper into the printer and how to run the test pro-

gram; it also describes and explains the printer's control panel

indicators. You should read this chapter thoroughly before going

on to the software manual.

Loading Paper

The SLM804 Laser Printer accepts standard xerographic paper;

that is, it accepts most "plain" paper. You can even use your

personal or business stationery, envelopes, and labels. You should

avoid using 100% cotton bond paper. For best results, use paper

made expressly for laser printing.

The printer also accepts transparencies. However, transparencies

with white optical stripes, those coated with silicon lubricant, and

transparencies intended for use with infrared copiers are not

recommended.

Automatic Paper Feed

The printer can feed up to 250 sheets of paper automatically with the

paper cassette. You can also feed transparencies with the paper

cassette; but NEVER feed envelopes or labels using the paper cas-

sette.

They will jam the automatic feed.
