CHAPTER 3
REGULAR MAINTENANCE
For a quick reference to all regular maintenance procedures for
the SLM804 Laser Printer, see the Maintenance Checklist at the
end of this chapter.
Replacing the Toner, Residual-Toner
Container, and Cleaning Pad
Regular maintenance requires that you replace the toner cartridge
every 3,000
pages.
However, because the toner hopper is initially
empty,
you wil
l
first need to replace the cartridge after approximately
1,800 pages (from then on every 3,000 pages). The Replace Toner
indicator on the printer's control panel will tell you when it's time to
replace the toner cartridge
.
At the same time you change the
toner,
you must also replace the
residual-toner container and cleaning pad. Your Atari retailer carries
the replacement toner kit, which includes a new toner
cartridge,
residual-toner container, and cleaning pad.
Toner
Whenever you replace toner, avoid getting the powder on your
hands and face
.
Wash your hands thoroughly after installing the
toner cartridge.
To replace the toner cartridge, follow these steps:
1.
Remove the toner cartridge from the plastic bag. For
now,
leave
the clear plastic tab taped to the top of the
cartridge.
2. Using both hands, hold the toner cartridge label-side up and
shake it gently from side to side (not up and down) a few times.
3. Open
the printer's top cover so that the drum and toner hopper
drop
down.
4.
Unlock
and remove the old toner cartridge from the toner hopper.
(There is no need to remove the hopper during this procedure.)
Immediately dispose of the old toner cartridge.
Warning: Th
e toner is electrically
conductive.
Never dispose of
e toner near
electrical equipment!
