APPENDIX A
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you run into problems while connecting or operating your SLM804
Laser Printer, chances are the difficulty is a minor hitch that you can
take care of easily. This appendix describes potential problems and
outlines easy
solutions.
It Just Won't Work
Sometimes the
printer
just won't
work.
If your printer doesn't
respond-for instance, it won't come on-try the following steps:
1. Switch off all parts
of
your ST Computer system. Make sure all
cable connections are correct and
secure.
Make sure the
residual-toner container is installed.
2. Switch the printer on
.
Allow the printer to warm up. Be sure the
printer's Ready indicator comes on after the printer warms up. If
the printer's Wait indicator is still on after two minutes, contact an
authorized Atari Service Center.
3. Switch on all other system
components.
Always switch on the
computer last.
4. If the printer still won 't come on, it may be that the main power
fuse is blown
.
Make sure that the printer is switched off, and
locate the fuse at the back of the printer. Check the fuse. If the
fuse looks burned or broken
,
replace it with one of the same
type.
5. Unplug the
printer.
Check the power cord for any cuts or breaks. If
necessary,
replace the power cord with one of the same
type.
Print Quality
Should you detect inconsistencies in print quality, or generally
poor
print quality, here are some measures you can take.
1. Clean the paper path
.
2. Reverse the cleaning
pad.
3.
Clean
the drum and paper chargers. Check to see that the
chargers
'
wires are not broken
.
4.
Clean
the fuser
roller.
Wait at least two hours after switching off
the printer before cleaning the fuser roller.
5.
Clean
the press rolle
r.
Wait at least two hours after switching
off
the
pri nter
before cleaning the press
roller.
