It
also follows that if one wants t o find t o p dead centre t o check t h e ignition,
o r for any other purpose, it can be found by t u r n i n g the dynamo coupling, as shown
in the above illustration.
T o check which cylinder is on t h e firing stroke, it is necessary t o remove
t h e valve cover and inspect t h e position o f t h e camshaft.
The form o f coupling employed permits the cylinder head being removed
w i t h o u t disturbing t h e timing in any way.
It
i s only necessary t o undo t w o bolts t o disengage the coupling between t h e
dynamo and t h e cylinder head.

It w i l l be noted t h a t t h e r e are notches i n t h e gasket, so
t h a t a t o o l l i k e a screwdriver can be inserted t o help t o l i f t t h e cylinder head.
Cylinder Head Removal.
Whenever t h e cylinder head has t o be removed
it i s obvious that t h e o i l delivery pipe and r e t u r n pipes w i l l have t o be disconnected.
There are 18 cylinder head holding-down bolts, and Illustration N o .
29
shows the
cylinder head partially removed.
A
copper and asbestos gasket is fitted between
the cylinder head and t h e cylinder block, and
if
ordinary care i s employed, there
is no reason why this should be damaged i n removal.
