component parts o f the rear spring assembly. The trunnions, it w i l l
be seen, are i n t w o parts t o allow t h e spring t o be w i t h d r a w n f r o m the housing i n t h e chassis frame.
N o t e also the distance piece and cover-plate.
The entire assembly is enclosed i n a rubber cover
and lubricated centrally f r o m t h e dash wall nipples.
Wheel Removal, Brake Details and Front Hubs.
The brakes on t h e f r o n t
and rear axles are similar in design, and t h e t w o views, 73 and 73a, are o f t h e f r o n t
hub, partially dismantled.
Metal parts that have been bolted t i g h t for a considerable t i m e have t h e
effect o f causing an adherence o f t w o parts, making the ordinary efforts t o separate
them o f no avail.
In t h e case o f a hub, it is possible t o make a hub drawer by
tapping a wheel cap i n t h e manner shown i n lllustration N o . 73.
Note
:
The rear
hub is fitted on t o t h e rear axle shaft under considerable pressure, so that t h e
type o f drawer illustrated is only suitable for t h e f r o n t hubs.
T o remove a f r o n t hub it is necessary t o remove t h e stub axle nut.
This can
be effected by first o f all removing the plug which i s found in the serrated p o r t i o n
o f the hub, and through this hole the split pin which locks t h e nut i n position can be
extricated.
It
i s sometimes possible by putting on a wheel t o pull t h e whole hub
off.
The component parts o f a f r o n t hub are shown in lllustration N o . 73a.
