Momentary reference should be made t o the jet control levers o f the three
carburetters.
If
ever jets are adjusted, it is necessary t o remove the pins i n t h e
jet control rods, so as t o give effect t o the adjustments, b u t this matter w i l l be
referred t o later.

is a close-up view of the off-side o f the f r o n t of the engine
and contains a number of points w i t h which the owner should familiarise himself.
There is first o f all an o i l level dipstick, which has already been referred to, the next
important point is the water drain tap which empties the radiator ; this tap is
actually beneath the radiator and is only indicated in the illustration t o draw attention
t o it. In addition t o this drain tap, it w i l l be seen on lllustration No.

that there
is another tap towards the rear o f the cylinder block.
It
is necessary when draining
t h e water t o t u r n on both the taps, so as t o be sure o f draining the cylinder block
as well.
Remove radiator cap while draining and leave it off
till
the radiator is
refilled.

The water drain tap is placed below t h e radiator (also shown
i n lllustration N o . 14).
The position o f t h e magneto d r i v e t h r o u g h vernier
coupling can be studied.
It
w i l l be noted that t h e r e is an external w i r e coupling
f r o m t h e i n t e r i o r o f t h e magneto t o the contact breaker and cover.

a t t e m p t t o start t h e engine w i t h the contact cover off.
The jet c o n t r o l t o t h e
carburetter can be seen, and if ever i t is necessary t o adjust t h e jets, it is necessary
t o remove t h e pins f r o m t h e levers and adjust t h e equaliser rod.
The magneto is mounted on a bracket and driven through a train o f gears by
means o f coupling w i t h vernier adjustment, so that i f ever the magneto is removed,
it can be replaced w i t h o u t altering t h e t i m i n g gears.
It
is fitted w i t h t w o points
f o r lubrication (this should be carried o u t sparingly and w i t h special oil), the
oiling holes being covered by spring-loaded caps.
Special attention is drawn in the illustration t o a w i r e which passes t o the rear
contact breaker cover.
This w i r e is attached t o the same terminal as the earth o r
switch wire, and it is
impossible
t o start t h e engine
if
ever the contact breaker
cover is left off.
