Independent Adjustment. Should
it
be necessary t o adjust t h e brakes
independently this can be done by means o f adjusting screws fitted t o t h e cable
stops o n t h e back plates. A t this p o i n t o n t h e cables a r u b b e r d i r t excluder is
fitted i n t h e f o r m o f a r u b b e r tube, and t h i s t u b e is mounted o n what is actually
t h e l o c k n u t f o r this adjustment.
By undoing this lock n u t t h e cable stop can be adjusted o n its thread b y t h e
a m o u n t required and t h e l o c k n u t re-tightened.
T h e whole o f t h e brake cross shaft is lubricated f r o m one o f t h e dashboard
nipples, and i n o r d e r t o give perfect freedom f o r t h e r o t a t i o n o f t h e cross shaft,
it is m o u n t e d at one end o n w h a t is t e r m e d a needle o r r o l l e r bearing. These are
shown i n Illustration N o . 16. Should
it
ever become necessary t o r e m o v e t h e
cross shaft,
if
care is exercised t h e e n t i r e bush o f t h e needle bearings need n o t be
removed. T o reassemble t h e needle bearing, t h e i n n e r shaft should be covered w i t h
grease and t h e rollers embedded i n it, when it w i l l be found that t h e y w i l l stop i n
position i n o r d e r t h a t they can be inserted inside t h e cable operating pulley.
