T h e o i l should be changed w h e n t h e car has completed t h e first 1000 miles.
It
should be replenished every 1000 miles, and every 3000 miles t h e plug a t t h e
b o t t o m o f t h e gearbox should be removed and t h e o l d o i l drained o u t , and t h e
gearbox subsequently refilled u p t o t h e p r o p e r level.
Under no circumstances
should thick oil be used.

t h e selector c o n t r o l lever is d r a w n backwards t h e gear selector lever is moved
d o w n w a r d s so t h a t it registers w i t h t h e aid o f a spring-loaded ball i n recesses i n
a plate.
It
w i l l be noticed t h a t t h e r o d between t h e u n i t c o n t r o l and t h e gear selector
lever is threaded at e i t h e r end t o p e r m i t o f adjustment should same be necessary
o n t h e selector c o n t r o l lever and t h e gear selector lever.
T h e r e is n o reason f o r
adjustment i n t h e o r d i n a r y sense o f t h e w o r d , b u t
if
t h e u n i t has t o be dismantled
at any t i m e , t h e adjustment is provided should t h e position o f t h e gear selector lever
n o t synchronise w i t h t h e position o f t h e selector c o n t r o l lever.

W h e n t h e lever is moved

has t h e same effect as a clutch,
although its operation is entirely different.
T h e r e are t w o plates and t w o r o w s of nuts t o be seen on t h e near-side of t h e
b o x which, under n o circumstances, r e q u i r e attention.

lever
operates
w h a t
is k n o w n
as
t h e
busbar
r o c k i n g
lever.
T h e action of t h e busbar w i l l be explained later, but, i n short, it consists of a plate
coupled u p t o a spring ; t h e plate o r busbar is caused t o move u p o r d o w n inside
t h e gearbox, depending w h e t h e r it is being pulled up b y t h e action o f t h e spring
o r pushed d o w n by t h e action o f t h e pedal.
