COIL IGNITION INSTRUCTIONS
The high-tension distributor w i t h automatic advance mechanism is very accessible.
I t is provided w i t h an oiler t o lubricate the spindle, and only a few drops o f t h i n
machine oil should be put i n every 1000 miles.

The contacts can be inspected by unclipping the t w o springs, when the cover
carrying the high-tension leads can be removed. Should for any reason
it
be
necessary t o check o r adjust, the ignition timing should be set so that No. I piston
is on top dead centre, measured on the flywheel when the

marking is i n the
centre o f the clutch inspection aperture and the inlet valve o f No.
6
is opening
and the contact breaker arm pointing towards No. I plug segment. Then, after
slackening the -securing bolt, rotate the body o f the distributor and set the
contact breaker arm so that the fibre heel on the contact breaker arm is on the
apex o f the cam on the rotor. The points may require adjustment from time t o
time, and a spanner is provided w i t h the tool k i t for this purpose. The clearance
between the points should be 15-20/1000 o f an inch. They are carefully set
before leaving the Works. I t is not advisable t o alter the setting unless the gap
varies considerably from the gauge supplied. If adjustment is necessary, proceed
