21. Apply engine oil to the camshafts, valves,
cam sprockets, and timing chain. Also turn
the crankshaft counterclockwise a few turns
to check that it turns smoothly.

Cylinder head covers

1. Adjust all the valves as described in the
"VALVE CLEARANCE" on page 3-14.
2. Install the oil plug into each camshaft cap.
CAUTION:
The oil plugs must be installed in each cam-
shaft hole to ensure that an adequate supply of
oil will be distributed along the camshafts.
3. Install the cylinder head cover with a new
gasket. Torque the bolt to specification.
Tightening torque:
10 Nm (1.0 m-kg, 7.2ft-lb)
NOTE:
The cylinder head cover has a nozzle to which the
crankcase ventilation pipe is connected. The cover
should be installed so that the smaller size nozzle
is on the front cylinder and the larger size nozzle is
on the rear cylinder.
4. Install the carburetor joint onto each cylin-
der. The carburetor joint for the front cylin-
der has two vacuum pipes; the joint for the
rear cylinder has only one. Torque the se-
curing bolts to specification.
Tightening torque:
12Nm(1.2m-kg,8.7ft-lb)
5. Install the carburetors and tighten the clamp
screws.
NOTE:
Install the hose clamps onto the carburetor joints
(both clamp stopper should fit together). The clamp
screw heads should face toward the right side of
the motorcycle.
6. Install the upper engine mounting bracket
onto the rear cylinder head. Torque the se-
curing bolts to specification.
Tightening torque:
20 Nm (2.0 m-kg, 14ft - lb)

Install the spark plugs, and torque them to
specification.
Tightening torque:
20 Nm (2.0m-kg, 14ft-lb)
8. Install the coolant pipes to the cylinder heads.
