Shifter - Yamaha XZ550RJ 1982 Service Manual

1. Remove the timing gear stopper bolt, then
remove the shaft.

2. Remove the timing gear and the cam chain.
3. Remove the cam chain guide securing
bolts and the cam chain guide.
4. Remove the

plates, and clutch plates.
5. Remove the ball and push rod #2 from the
transmission main shaft.

6. Flatten the lock tab on the primary-drive
gear securing nut.
7. Place a small piece of rolled rag or a small
piece of lead between the primary gears,
and remove the primary drive gear securing
nut, lock washer, washer and key.
8. Flatten the lock tab, and remove the clutch
boss securing nut; use the clutch hub
holder.
9. Remove the
thrust washer, and the clutch housing from
the transmission main shaft.
10. Remove the key and cam chain drive gear
from the crankshaft.

Shifter

1. Remove the shifter shaft circlip and washer
from the left side crankcase.
