4. Align the key with the keyway in the crank-
case, and using a hydraulic press, force-fit the
bearing.
5. Remove the special tool set and make sure
the bearing is in place.

Connecting rod bearings Check the bearings. If the
inner or outer surface is burned, flaked, rough,
scratched, or worn, the bearings should be replaced.
Connecting-rod-bearing clearance
1. Thoroughly clean all parts.
2. Install the connecting rod bearing upper half
into the connecting rod.
3. Place Plastigage® on the crankpin.
4. Install the rod bearing lower half in the con-
necting rod cap, and install the rod cap onto
the crankshaft.
5. Apply molybdenum disulfide grease to the
bolt threads, and torque both ends of the
rod cap evenly. Do not move the connecting
rod until the clearance check is completed.
CAUTION:
When tightening the rod cap, apply continuous
torque between 3.4 and 3.8m- kg. Once you
reach 3.4m-kg of torque, DO NOT STOP tighten-
ing until final torque is reached. If tightening is
interrupted between 3.4 and 3.8m-kg, loosen
the nut to less than 3.4m*kg and start again.
Tighten to full-torque specification without
pausing.
Tightening torque:
38 Nm (3.8m-kg, 27ft-lb)
6. Carefully remove the connecting rod cap,
and measure the width of the Plastigage®.
Connecting-rod-bearing clearance:
0.035 ~ 0.054mm (0.0014-0.0021 in)
Connecting rod bearing selection
The numbers used to indicate the crankpin size are
stamped on the L.H. crank web.
