Feature keys are stored in the Flash device of the unit to which they relate. The majority
of these features require a key to be input via the Feature Keys menu.
Feature Keys are retained when the unit configuration is returned to its factory default.

Standard Configuration or Push Config

You can configure any unit manually, using a menu system, accessed from a PC or
laptop. The computer can access the menus either serially using the M&C or console
port or via an ethernet port using a web interface, Telnet session, or SSH. With all
Vocality products, this technique may be used to set up the locally connected unit(s)
and any other unit in the network. This relies on knowledge of how all of the relevant
parameters must be set for your application, against a background of default initial
values which help to get the unit working with the minimum number of changes.
Note: The Vocality web interface is intended for use by someone configuring a
local unit, which is accessed over TCP/IP to Slot 0 of the unit being configured. If
you are configuring a remote unit you must either use the M&C/console port
option, to use the Remote menu, or configure an IP route to your unit.
In TTY mode, a set of commands can be used to configure the unit. These are intended
for expert users only and are not covered in this User Manual.
As an alternative to the manual approach, any BASICS, V25, V50plus or V150 unit may
receive their configuration settings automatically from a V150 or a V200 hub unit using
a mode known as Push Config. In this case, the hub unit contains all of the
configurations for the clients in the network and pushes them out using a proprietary
protocol at the start of the day. These configurations are entered at the hub on a
dedicated menu. The primary aim of Push Config is to remove the need for multiplexer
management skills from personnel in the field, whilst retaining the ability to dynamically
change network operation. The ultimate aim is for a unit to be installed at a remote site,
and automatically obtain its settings when it is connected to the Vocality network.
When in Push Config mode, a remote unit obtains its configuration when it initially
connects to a hub – therefore only basic serial aggregate connectivity to the hub unit is
required in the remote unit configuration.
Note that Push Config is an option. It is intended for remote sites in a hub-spoke type
network (that is not mesh) where there is a single aggregate link in use at the remote
site. You can always choose Normal mode (where the remote unit carries its own
complete configuration) and manual configuration, if Push Config operation is too
restrictive.
