2.4.2.1 LEDs During Hot-swap

The LEDs on the back panel (both on the CPU card and the serial card) cycle through a
pattern (red-off-green) - the button needs to be held for approx 5 seconds during
which the displayed pattern gets faster. When the pattern is so fast that the LED
appears orange the request to shutdown the card is made. If the shutdown is successful,
the LEDs go off. However, if the button is released before the 5 second period, the LEDs
go back to their original port status use.

Alarms

The CPU card contains two alarm relays which are voltage-free single-pole changeover
relays connected to the 6-way RJ45 Alarm Port; one is designated for Minor Alarms and
the other for Major Alarms. The Minor Alarms relay is activated when any ports on the
local unit designated as aggregates do not have carrier with a remote unit. The Major
Alarm Relay is activated when a card is faulty or shut down. Both alarms are activated
when power is lost from the chassis.
The relay provides a normally-open and a normally-closed contact relative to the
common pole. These may be used to drive an external visual or audible alarm or to
integrate with a network management system.
