REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
Remove the left side cover (page 2-8).
Disconnect the spark plug cap.
Release the wire band boss [1].
Disconnect the ignition coil wire connectors [2]/[3].
Remove the mount bolts [4] and ignition coil [5].
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
• The ignition timing cannot be adjusted since the
ECM is factory preset.

Start the engine, warm it up to normal operating
temperature and stop it.

instructions for
timing light
operation.
• Never allow the cooling fan to come in contact with
the radiator while the engine is running, or the
radiator will be severely damaged.
Connect the timing light [1] to the spark plug wire.
Start the engine and let it idle (1,700 ± 100 rpm).
The ignition timing is correct if the index mark [2] on the
radiator base aligns with the "F" mark [3] on the cooling
fan.
If the ignition timing is incorrect, replace the ECM with a
new one (page 4-49) and recheck .
