IGNITION SYSTEM

IGNITION TIMING

When the engine must be running to do some work,
make sure the area is well ventilated. Never run the
engine in a closed area. The exhaust contains
poisonous carbon monoxide gas that may cause loss
of consciousness and lead to death. Run the engine
in an open area or with an exhaust evacuation system
in an enclosed area.
The ignition timing is factory preset and only needs to be
checked when an electrical system component is
replaced.
Warm up the engine to the normal operating
temperature.
Remove the fan cover.
Connect the timing light and a tachometer.
Read the manufacturer's instructions for the timing light
and tachometer.
The ignition timing is correct if the "F" mark on the
flywheel aligns with the index mark of the right crankcase
at idle.
Install the fan cover.
