5.2 Installing a Network
5.2.1 Installing the RS-485 Network Link
1. Run the cables through conduits to form a daisy chain
2. Ground conduit where cable is connected to RS-485 In terminals
3. Isolate conduit where cable is connected to RS-485 Out terminals
4. Ensure all wires are identified at both ends
5. Connect the wires to the RS-485 terminal blocks
6. The shield of each cable section is grounded at one end only
5.2.2 Configuring the Hydran M2-X's Communication Parameters
1. No alarm condition detected
2. Set identification numbers:

Set Power Station ID to _________

Set Monitor ID to _________
3. Set communication parameters:
•
Set DB9 Baud Rate to _________ bps
•
Set 485 Baud Rate to _________ bps (identical for all Hydran M2-X's)

Set RS232<->RS485 to Disabled [ ]
5.2.3 Installing and Configuring a Laptop Computer
5.2.3.1 Connecting a Laptop Computer
1. Remove the cover of any Hydran M2-X in the network
2. Connect the RS-232 cable to the Hydran M2-X
3. Connect the RS-232 cable to the laptop computer's serial ports
5.2.3.2 Configuring the Laptop Computer and Perception software
1. Set the serial port's baud rate and other parameters (8 data bits; no parity; 1
stop bit; no flow control)
5.2.3.3 Verifying the RS-232 Communications
1. Using Perception software verify that the communication can be established
with the Hydran M2-X
5.2.4 Installing a Hydran 201i Controller
1. Install a Hydran 201Ci Controller equipped with a modem
2. If necessary, connect the Hydran 201Ci Controller to its modem
