Note that the thesaurus function has the following restrictions:
If you are executing the scan thesaurus function and the selected synonym is too
long to replace the specified word, the typewriter cannot replace the the latter
with the former. In this case, the error message appears and the function is
canceled. The typewriter returns to the last working status. Retry to execute
the scan thesaurus function.
If you are executing the dictionary synonym function in the TYPE NORMAL
or AUTO mode with the carrier located among lh
insert the selected synonym. If you are working in the screen edit modes, you
may not be able to insert the synonym into the text. In these cases, the error
message appears and the dictionary synonym function is canceled. The
typewriter returns to the last working status. Retiy to execute the dictionary
synonym function.
Note that the ESC key can cancel the function halfway.

Function of Dictionary

The electronic spelling dictionary has the following functions:
The typewriter can check a word that contains up to 30 characters in length. If a
word exceeds this length, the typewriter does not check that word..
The terminators or the word end keys that activate the spell-check function
include the SPACEBAR, CODE + SPACEBAR, — # (Tab), B TAB,
(Return), CODE + IND CLR, CODE + L IND, CODE + P IND, RMF, a
slash, a hyphen, a permanent hyphen, and the second period of consecutively-
typed periods. In addition to these keys, the — > (Cursor Right), PAGE, and
RELOC keys are also terminators in the TYPE mode and the CODE +
End), CODE + E SET (Column End), and CTR (only while editing phrases)
keys in the WP and PHRASE EDIT modes. When any of these keys are pressed
at the end of a word, the typewriter starts looking up the word in the main and
supplemental dictionaries.
When the TYPE mode is selected, the typewriter can store approximately
2,000 characters (1,700 characters in Proportional Spacing mode) in the
correction ntemoiy. You can go back to any word stored in this memory and
check the spelling. If you go back to a word with the K — I (Backspace) or J
(Reverse Index) key, press the SPACEBAR once or several times to tell the
typewriter the word end. The typewriter looks up the destination word
located just before the carrier in the main and supplemental dictionaries. If the
typewriter cannot find it in the dictionaries, it beeps to alert you. Correct the
word and press the RELOC key to move the carrier back to the line or position
where it was. You cannot replace the suspected printed word with the proper
one if the latter is too long to replace the printed word.
