REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (Continued)
(20) Remove the three lower left instrument panel
mounting bolts.
(21) Remove the three upper left instrument panel
mounting bolts.
(22) Disconnect the instrument panel to body har-
ness electrical connector.
(23) Disconnect the radio antenna connector.
(24) Remove the three lower right instrument
panel mounting bolts.
(25) Remove the three upper right instrument
panel mounting bolts.
(26) Pull the right side of the instrument panel
back and set on right (passenger side) seat to access
the passenger airbag module.
NOTE: The instrument panel does not have to be
removed any more than this for passenger airbag
service.
(27) Remove four screws to the right demister duct
(20 in. lbs. torque).
(28) Remove two screws to the right distribution
duct assembly (20 in. lbs. torque).
(29) Disconnect the yellow wire harness connector
from the airbag module assembly and the three
christmas tree fasteners.
(30) Remove the right and left pencil strut to Pas-
senger Airbag screws (45 in. lbs. torque) (Fig. 7).
(31) Disconnect the instrument panel wiring har-
ness from the airbag reinforcement bracket.
(32) Remove four 10 mm hex head screws to the
deployment door reinforcement - two screws per side
(75 in. lbs. torque.) (Fig. 7)
(33) Remove five screws from the passenger airbag
module assembly to retainer (20 in. lbs. torque) (Fig.
7).
(34) Remove the airbag module assembly from the
instrument panel retainer.
(35) Remove four screws to the reinforcement
brace on the old airbag module (20 in. lbs. torque)
(Fig. 8).
INSTALLATION
(1) Install the reinforcement bracket on to the new
airbag module. Tighten to 20 in.lbs. (2.3 N•m).
For installation, reverse the above procedures.
Refer to Diagnosis and Testing for Airbag System
Test procedures.
DEPLOYED MODULE
The instrument panel must be removed for
DEPLOYED Passenger Airbag Module service.
REMOVAL
When removing a deployed module: rubber gloves,
eye protection, and a long-sleeved shirt should be

worn. There may be deposits on the surface which
could irritate the skin and eyes.
(1) Open hood and disconnect the negative battery
cable remote terminal from the remote battery post.
(2) Roll or fold the passenger airbag towards the
instrument panel surface and tuck into instrument
panel into module area. Then tape the ripped instru-
ment panel pad over the deployed airbag.
(3) Remove instrument panel and pad assembly.
Refer to Group 8E Instrument Panel and Systems,
for Removal and Installation.
(4) Remove Passenger Airbag Module. Refer to
Passenger Airbag Removal and Installation in this
section for a Non-Deployed Module.
